The Role
At 10 hours a week, every hour counts. You're here to make sure the hard things are built right and the junior developer has clear patterns to follow.
What You'll Do
- Set up the project: repo, CI/CD, testing, deployment
- Own third-party API integrations (calendar, AI/LLM providers)
- Build core backend services and the data pipeline
- Collaborate with the CTO on database schema, data models, and architecture decisions
- Establish code patterns and conventions the junior developer follows
- Review every PR for correctness, security, and quality
- Daily async sync with junior developer; weekly check-in with CTO
Required
- 7+ years of professional software development
- Built and shipped at least one multi-tenant B2B SaaS product with paying users
- Strong third-party API integration experience (OAuth 2.0, webhooks, edge cases)
- Strong Python backend (FastAPI preferred), PostgreSQL, plus React/Next.js comfort
- Daily AI coding tool user (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) who knows where they help and where they don't
- Can mentor a junior developer through PR reviews without micromanaging
- Comfortable with evolving requirements
- 5+ hours overlap with US Eastern Time; strong written and spoken English
Preferred
- Zoom API, Google Workspace API experience
- AI/LLM API integration in production (OpenAI, Anthropic)
- Event-driven systems (webhooks, polling, WebSockets)
- Data privacy: encryption, audit logging, retention policies
- Tech lead experience on a small team (2–4 engineers)
